Cook Composites (CCP) of Houston, Texas was referred to METCO Services by LEICA Geosystems. CCP was instructed by the local permitting agencies to provide As-Built documentation of their facility, specifically fire protection. The two story chemical facility was easily surveyed with an HDS6000 laser scanner and TPS 1200 total station. Both floors were related accurately from the survey control which provided for a robust and complete point cloud.
Once the data was collected, CCP quickly realized the value of the data on hand and requested that their entire facility be documented in the form of an AutoCAD model. With a majority of their CAD department accustomed to working in a 2D environment, we were able to very easily provide the sections, elevations and floor plans they required.
CCP has since moved to updating their work process for documenting their existing facilities and is a believer in this powerful technology.
