Detroit, MI, February, 2008 - METCO Services, Inc., one of the leading companies to offer laser scanning for everyday surveying services, announced today that Marty Dunn and John Brown will be presenting at SPAR 2008.

Marty Dunn, Vice President of METCO, will present "Scanning Easter Island's Historic Artifacts and Caves". Marty will discuss howMETCO Services, Inc., partnered with Autodesk and Leica Geosystems to provide laser scanning and GPS services on Easter Island at the request of the Chilean Government. The goals were to scan numerous landmarks on the island for historical preservation, and for use in preparing a GIS. METCO scanned various artifacts on the main island, and also ventured onto Motu Nui (Birdman Island) to scan the caves.

John Brown, CAD/HDS Manager at METCO, and Elixabeth Lee, Manager of Documentation Projects at CyArk, will be presenting "Leveraging Partnerships and Technology to Help Save History". The presentation will will discuss how CyArk and METCO Services, Inc. worked together to document the ancient Mayan city of Chichén Itza, recently named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Using laser scanning and photography, the team captured detailed information about the monumental structures on site. By working as part of a larger documentation team and with site archaeologists, the team was able to collect accurate information that can be used to monitor and preserve this important part of history.
