METCO speaks at Building Division summer meeting           

Warren, Michigan, August 2, 2007 - METCO Services, Inc. was invited to speak at the Building Division summer meeting of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGCA).  The AGCA is one of the largest organizations of qualified construction contractors and industry related companies in the United States.

The summer meeting was in Pinehurst, North Carolina on June 20-23, 2007, and featured a discussion of Building Information Modeling (BIM).  BIM is a philosophy which focuses on tracking.  Any change you make—anytime, anywhere— is automatically coordinated throughout the project, thus allowing for increased communication and accuracy. Martin Dunn and John Brown spoke regarding the use of Laser Scanning for BIM.  The discussion included the value of rich 3D Laser Scanning data, and the accuracy and versatility of that data.

The presentation was very well received, with many in-depth questions and discussions of laser scanning and 3D modeling.  

Laura Handler, a Virtual Construction Planner with TOCCI Building Companies, said “Most design and construction firms have been hesitant to use building information modeling (BIM) on renovation projects because they weren’t sure how to accurately model existing conditions.  METCO’s presentation on high definition scanning demystified the process for those who attended.  Attendees were exposed to a wide range of information:  scanning hardware and software, as well as scanning and modeling process.  Experiencing a ‘live scan’ added a dimension of realism that will facilitate the adoption of both high definition scanning and BIM for renovation projects.”
